Juliette Low Birthday Bonfire
Each year around October 31st, Girl Scouts celebrate the birthday of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts. She was born on October 31, 1860 in Savannah, Georgia. Juliette Low had the desire to see girls grow into productive and responsible women. Her first “troop” started with 18 girls. Today it has grown into an organization of 3.7 million girl and adult members. It is the preeminent girls leadership organization in the U.S.
Girl Scouts celebrate Juliette Low’s birthday in many ways: parties, service projects, with special cakes, etc. The Girl Scouts of Coronado hold an annual bonfire in celebration of her life. It is typically scheduled the Sunday before or after Halloween at a fire ring on North Beach in Coronado. All Girl Scouts and their families are invited to participate as we exchange SWAPS, sing songs and make s’mores around the bonfire.
